I just finished reading Trapline Twins by Miki and Julie Collins, a great Alaska book and one that I read way back in 1997 when John and I first moved to the state. The book details Mike and Julie’s experiences in rural Alaska where they grew up and chose to remain, leading a subsistence-based trapping life and relying on dog teams and float planes for transportation. I enjoy rereading such AK classics, especially in September when the cold and dark are returning so quickly. Now it’s time to sort through the winter gear, dust off the mukluks, service my snow bike, change over to my Element’s studded winter tires, get a flu shot, and then wait for the first winter storm. Bring it!
